About me

Hello and thank you for visiting my website! I am a mixed-media artist based in South East London. I have worked in London as an English and Drama teacher for over ten years and have been an artist for as long as I can remember! I have also lived in Malaysia for a couple of years and so it will come as no surprise that travelling is an important source of inspiration for my art.
My art has colour and playfulness at its core, which is why I use a variety of materials, depending on the piece I am working on, to achieve different aesthetics, textured surfaces and colour pigments. These often include a variety of paints, watercolour pencils, pastels, acrylic paint pens, different papers and printing too. I have recently entered the world of digital art and am now also developing my style through that medium too.
My art indulges in the small moments of comfort and beauty in the day-to-day, an admiration of nature and a love for all things fantastical and magical. My inspiration comes from my daily observations of life, travelling and my very vivid, and dreamy, imagination. Through my artwork I hope to share these colourful observations and admirations with you.
I also believe the arts are hugely important for both the individual and the community. For me, art has been a tool of mindfulness and self-expression, individual and collaborative growth, thinking outside the box and keeping my playfulness alive. It is therefore important to me that I use my passion for art, and my experience as an educator, to build a vibrant space for art in the community, ensuring more people have the opportunity to experience its transformative value. This is why I created Billy Crown Art Club in my local community, at Lewisham Arthouse, and hope to bring more art clubs across London.
